Why Travis Traveled to San Francisco for Couples Therapy Training

In October, Travis Webb, LPC, traveled to San Francisco to spend time learning more about couples therapy. Travis is our Clinical Director at Pinnacle Counseling in Rogers, AR, where his work includes marriage and relationship counseling. He attended the 2026 Couples Therapy Conference from October 8 to 10, a three-day event focused on approaches to the challenges couples bring to counseling.

Making Time for Continued Learning

The trip to San Francisco reflects a commitment that can be easy to overlook: taking time to continue learning while already working in the counseling field. For Travis, traveling to the conference meant making room to deepen his knowledge, consider other approaches, and spend time around professionals focused on relationship counseling.

The event offered more than presentations. Its schedule included networking receptions where counseling professionals could meet, share experiences, and exchange ideas. Those opportunities were another part of the professional gathering, alongside the clinical topics on the program. Different counselors encounter different relationship concerns, and exchanging perspectives can give them more to think about in their own practice.

Learning More About the Challenges Couples Face

The 2026 Couples Therapy Conference program covered attachment, emotional responses, communication, betrayal, intimacy, and conflict. These are related concerns, but they do not all call for the same conversation or the same therapeutic approach. The range of subjects helps explain why an event devoted to couples therapy can offer useful perspectives even to a counselor who already works with couples.

At the conference, Travis expanded his knowledge and skills, learned about evidence-based approaches, and explored strategies relevant to his clinical practice.

Communication, for instance, is not always just a matter of choosing better words. A disagreement can also be shaped by how each person reacts to conflict or experiences the relationship. The conference program explored those broader dynamics, giving clinicians different ways to think about familiar concerns.

What That Learning Means for Our Couples Counseling Work

At Pinnacle Counseling, couples come to therapy with different histories and different reasons for seeking support. Some want help talking through disagreements without feeling stuck in the same patterns. Others are trying to rebuild trust. Still others are working through relationship challenges that do not have a simple answer.

Those are three areas Travis’s continued learning may help him address: strengthening communication, supporting the work of rebuilding trust, and helping partners navigate difficult situations. He can consider those insights as he continues his clinical work with couples.

Our goal is to support couples as they work toward healthier, stronger relationships. Continuing to learn about relationship counseling is one part of staying engaged with that goal, and Travis’s trip to San Francisco is a recent example of that effort.
